Happy birthday Latvia!

lacplesa-diena
Hi!

Today is the 96th birthday of my beautiful country Latvia.I really couldn't be any happier with the fact that I was born here and I am definitely a very proud and patriotic citizen. Therefore, today I wanted to share with you some pictures I have taken over the last week. On 11th November which for Latvians is also known as the Lāčplēsis day- me, my dad and my niece went to the Riga's promenade and together with thousands of latvians lit candles in honor of the fallen Latvian freedom fighters in the year of 1919. I think that this event is very important to our nation and because of our complicated past we should honor each and every person who made it possible for us to live in a beautiful and independent country! The whole event was really magical- imagine thousands and thousands of cadles lit along the coast of river Daugava. The evening was even more magical because of the heavy mist that made the whole atmosphere a bit spooky as well!

Šodien ir Latvijas 96. dzimšanas diena, tāpēc es nolēmu uzrakstīt nelielu bloga rakstu, kurā padalīšos ar jums ar dažām bildēm, kuras es sabildēju pēdējās nedēļas laikā. 11.

As the whole week from 11th November till 18th November is a festive week there were multiple events in which people of Latvia could participate and just celebrate these historical events, me and my boyfriend also participated in an event called Festival of Light ( in Latvian: Staro Rīga). With the help of modern light and video technology, the festival will present around one hundred outdoor installations in Riga - building lights, multimedia projections in parks, on high-rise buildings and monuments. The play of light opens up a completely different view of the city. Therefore, I just had to take camera with me and capture Riga in such different lights!

  11. I think honoring those who gave their life so that we can both live in independent country (different one but still) is hugely important. They were the ones never being able to live the freedom they got to us. You festive seem a lot like ones in Finland, our day is 6th of December. Thank you for making this post on such an important event.
