Midsummer in pictures

latvian-fashion-blogger-midsummer
Midsummer also known as St. John's day, Summer Solstice is a feast celebrated in many European countries- in some countries more, in some less. In Latvia Midsummer is celebrated very widely, 23d and 24th June are National holidays in which a lot of people go to the countryside and celebrate Midsummer together with family or friends!
This year we even had a Midsummer weekend- the holidays started at Saturday ( 20th of June) and lasted till Tuesday included ( 24th of June)! As usual I spent these holidays together with my family at the countryside where my grandparents live, approximitely 10km away from city Ventspils. I had a lot of fun and I was very happy to spend these holidays together with my closest family as I do miss them dearly! As to the countryside I went on Sunday's evening, me and my cousin had a lot of time not only to help grandma with gardening, but also we managed to have two photo shoots! I cannot wait to show you the outcome as pictures turned out amazing! Especially the ones that we captured at the golden hour in a beautiful rapeseed field right after rain!
On Midsummer Eve we lighted a big bonfire, ate traditional Latvian Midsummer food ( cheese with caraways, patties with meat, barbecue etc) and drank beer ( though as I don't particularly like beer, I drank wine- a big wine lover here! :D). We also made traditional flower wreaths ( wreaths with flowers for women; wreaths with oak leaves for men), I made mine from jasmines and I must say that jasmines are ah-mazing! Their scent is truly heavenly!
Do you celebrate Midsummer in your country? If, yes, then how?

LV
Šogad man liekas, ka bija vieni vislietainākajiem Jāņiem!

  16. Summer Solstice is not celebrated in Russia so widely, but I know about this day at least:) We all have our own traditions, and it's always quite interesting to learn something new, why not:) Your traditional flower wreath is just amazing, I adore jasmine flowers too, and the fragrant smell of these wonderful flowers always made my heart sing:)
The photographs are so touching and sweet, Maddie! I enjoyed a lot, thank you for sharing these positive vibes with us:) I can't mention that yummy honey cakes with berries, looks delicious:)
    All the best!
